M1005G Widow Widowers

Purpose: This section will assist in determining whether an individual is eligible for Medicaid benefits under Widow Widowers.

POL M1005G: DETERMINING ELIGIBILITY FOR WIDOW WIDOWERS

1. Applicants Must Be a Widow or Widower

2. Applicants Must Be Between Age 50 and 64

3. Applicants Would Remain SSI Recipients

If the Widow Widowers benefits were disregarded, the applicant would remain an SSI recipient.

4. Applicants Not Entitled to Medicare Part A

5. Applicants Must Meet Income Requirements

Applicant must meet income guidelines per the DFS 412, after disregarding the Widow Widowers benefits.

6. Applicant’s Income as Widow Widowers Must Be Verified

The applicants income must be verified using one of the following:

    • TPQY.

    • Notification from SSA.

    • OR

    • Contacting SSA.

7. Applicants Do Not Have Asset Test

8. Applicant’s SSI Closure Date Must Be Verified

The applicants SSI closure date must be verified using one of the following:

    • TPQY.

    • SDX update.

    • Notification from SSA.

    • OR

    • Contacting SSA.

1. Individual between age of 50 and 64 who was receiving SSI benefits and lost SSI due to receipt of Widow Widowers benefits.
